The day (and the yearlist!) started at Whitlingham. The redhead Smew was seen on a few occasions, but very flighty. I managed to miss the Great Northern Diver the first time, but it eventually showed well! A female Ruddy duck was also seen, but there was no sign of the Black-necked grebe, unfortunately its favoured area was frozen over.
Wroxham Broad
The female Ring-necked Duck proved illusive, although some creative viewing gave some good views! An adult winter Mediterranean Gull was found amongst the Common and Black-headed roost.
Barton Broad
The drake Ferruginous Duck was showing well from the end of the boardwalk, but there was no sign of the two Smew while I was there. A single White-fronted Goose was amongst the Greylag and there were good numbers of Goldeneye. Just as enjoyable during the day was catching up with 'old' faces, that i hadn't seen for a while!
Ludham
The mixed flock of mainly Bewick's, with a few Whooper Swan was located by the 'airfield'.
A few other pictures taken at Whitlingham Broad. I was pleased with the Blue Tit pics
and the geese, well, enough said!
