Montie(s) Return

The morning was spent looking for the returning Montagu's Harriers. In 3 hours there was a ten minute high view of a male bird drifting NE. A birder, who has spent quite a few hours there recently, 1st saw a male on Saturday, but hasn't seen any others yet, although 3 have been reported on one afternoon. Also around were 5 Marsh Harrier, 4+ Buzzard, Whimbrel over and both Common and Lesser Whitethroat in the hedgerows.
At Titchwell an imm Little Gull was over the freshmarsh, along with the drake Red-crested Pochard. Waders were apparent, with c100 Black-tailed Godwits and 30 Turnstone plus smaller numbers of others. The most interesting site was a Chinese Water Deer on Thornham Marsh.

Yesterdays birding highlights included an early inland Hobby flying south of Fulmodstone, 2 Yellow Wagtail at Kelling and Little Ringed Plover and Common Sandpiper at Cley. I was fortunate enough to be in Dauke's Hide when 2 Red Kite drifted over and as I returned after a couple of pictures 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls flew over. 3 Little Ringed Plover were seen on the way home as well as 5 Little Egret, Cuckoo and the Harris's Hawk.
